1 - Reflections on Previous I Search Experiences- (Assigned- Thurs. April 3; Due- Mon. April 7)
1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?
Social Studies bio-board of a significant person in 6th grade
English web quest for information about Greek mythology in 8th grade
Social Studies web quest for information about labyrinths in 8th grade
Social Studies bullitin board project for Louisiana state festivals in 7th grade
2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
To me, research means llooking up information about a subject to learn about it and apply the things you learn to life today.
3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
When I was researching Walt Disney for my 6th grade bio-board project, I was successful in finding many good websites and I got lots of great information. I was also successful in learning more about my subject and making and A+ project.
2 - Reflection on Webbing Process- (Assigned- Mon. April 7; Due- Tues. April 8)
1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:
I think the webbing proccess helped me to organize my ideas well, and it helped because all of my ideas were displayed neatly and organized in a way that helped the thinking proccess.
3 - Why I Chose This Topic and What I Know About My Topic- (Assigned- Mon. April 7; Due- Tuesday, April 8)
1. Topic:
The seven wonders of the ancient world, how they were built, what effect they had on the ancient people who knew them, and how they were destroyed (if destroyed)
2. Why you chose it:
I've always been fascinated with famous structures and beautiful monuments and buildings. I think this topic (these topics) will be interesting to research, and it will definitely hold my attention throughout the course of the project.
3. What you already know about your topic:
I already know what the seven wonders of the ancient world are (thanks to Mrs. DaQuanno's class) and I have a book all about the wonders to use as one of my research sources. The seven wonders are: the Pyramid at Giza (pyramids of Egypt), the Statue of Zues at Olympia, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Pharos at Alexandria, and the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus.
4 - Pre-Notetaking Activity - in class (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic:
Fat Question: How did the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World affect ancient society?
Why did people admire the wonders?
What values did people hold that helped them to appreciate the wonders?
How did the wonders show their empire's power and mastery?
What are the reasons people were inspired to build the wonders?
How and why were the wonders destroyed (if destroyed)? How did this affect the monument's empire?
What is your fat question? I don't see which direction you want to go in your research.

5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking - for homework (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?
The brainstorming activities we did in class was helpful in broadening my mind to some possible questions and ideas to express in my project. I think that it was easy to create a fat question from my supporting questions list because the questions all had a main idea. I used the main message of my supporting questions to create my fat question.
